Home -> Sales Taxes -> GST/HST -> PST -> Sales Tax Rates -> 2014 Sales Tax Rates2014 Sales Tax Rates in Canadian Provinces and TerritoriesThe following table shows the general rates of provincial sales taxes or HST for most purchases, and provides links to the provincial (or federal) web sites regarding provincial retail sales taxes.
(1) As per the PE 2012 Budget, PEI removed the provincial sales tax and implemented HST, with a rate of 14%, effective April 1, 2013. There were a number of provisions of the Revenue Tax Act that would remain in force for a period of time as the administration of the PST is wound down, so we've left the link to the PEI Revenue Tax in the above table. (2) Ontario still has retail sales tax on insurance and on private sales of used motor vehicles. See the link to Ontario Retail Sales Tax for more information. (3) NS 2014 Budget announced that the previously announced HST rate reduction to 14% on July 1, 2014 and 13% on July 1, 2015 will not happen. The rate will be maintained at 15%. Businesses which sell taxable goods and/or services in each province are required to register as a vendor to collect the provincial retail sales tax where applicable.
