Interest and Penalties Regarding GST/HST Returns

Part IX of the Excise Tax Act (ETA) regarding GST/HST has been revised, resulting in changes (effective April 1, 2007) to:

bulletrestrictions on refunds and rebates of GST/HST
bulletstart date for interest on a refund or rebate of GST/HST
bulletprescribed rates for interest paid on refunds or rebates of GST/HST
bulletprescribed rates for interest charged on overdue GST/HST
bulletpenalties for overdue GST/HST returns

Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has published Notice 212 - Questions and Answers regarding legislative amendments to Part IX of the Excise Tax Act, which details the changes made.
